FATMAP
The Brief
From mountains to deserts, oceans to forests and beyond FATMAP make these extraordinary places and their endless possibilities easier to discover, experience and share. FATMAP approached weheartdigital with a problem, all of this amazing content was hidden from Search Engines within the FATMAP App. The FATMAP editorial team needed some way to expose this content so that more people could discover the 10,000 plus routes . With the internal FATMAP team focused on core product development they decided to bring in external help to accelerate this SEO project.
The Solution
We worked with the FATMAP team to understand the problem and proposed a technical solution to achieve their desired outcome. We designed the site utilising visual elements from FATMAP's existing apps. The designs incorporate screenshots as well as a focus on the imagery to draw users in and encourage sign-up. It was agreed that FATMAP provide periodic SQL dumps of the routes, guidebooks, destinations and states. We then created a tool in TypeScript/Node.js which imports the data from these dumps into a PostgreSQL data structure we designed. We utilised a Next.js/React solution to fit with the skill set of FATMAP's team and produce a performant and SEO-friendly site highlighting FATMAP content.
The Outcome
The site now features details of the routes, destination landing pages which can be broken down by activity type and statistics, site map and hierarchical listing pages, a custom full-text search, and a shared login with the existing 3D web application.
